Career Inquiry Series: I Want To Be An FBI Agent

I’ve always dreamed about becoming an FBI Agent since I was 10 years old. The idea of protecting and defending the United States against terrorist and foreign threats makes me happy. Profiling is something I absolutely love doing. Profiling is recording and analysis of a person’s psychological and behavior characteristics, predicting their capabilities in a certain

sphere or to assist in identifying a particular group of people. An FBI agent’s mission is to focus on threats that challenge the foundations of American society or involve dangers too large or complex for any local or state authority to handle alone.

As an FBI agent, your duties would include


  • protect the United states from terrorist attack

  • combat public corruption at all levels

  • protect civil rights

  • support federal ,state ,local and international partners

  • upgrade technology to successfully perform the FBI’s mission

To become an FBI agent:

  • Candidates must be at least 23 years old, but younger than 37 at the time of appointment.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Holds a 4 year degree from a college

  • Must take an online application

  • Must qualify for at least one of these programs:

  • Language

  • Law

  • Accounting

  • Computer science/ Information Tech

  • Diversified

Salary: $134,631 per year (NYC)

In addition to their salary, FBI agent’s receive health insurance, retirement benefits after 20 years of service, and paid vacations and holidays.
